Capital grants committed: €75,845
Market grant committed; €4,775

The Recycling Village is a specialist recycling facility based in Tenure Business Park, Monasterboice, County Louth. The company was set up by Noel Madden and Robert Brennan, who have many years experience in the areas of waste management and recycling. The business arose from their keen understanding of the industry: ‘My colleague and I had been monitoring the implementation of the WEEE Directive in Ireland in August 2005 and were aware of the business opportunity it created,’ explained Noel Madden. The company was set up as a direct response to the WEEE Directive, which concerns disposal of electronic and electrical equipment. At present, the company specialises in the recycling of Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs) from TVs and computer monitors. The company also has the capacity to recycle florescent tubes, batteries and printer cartridges, and is helping the Race against Waste.

The Recycling Village invested €250,000 in plant and equipment and received a capital grant of €75,845 from Louth LEADER for the purchase of specialist equipment developed in Sweden for the recycling of CRTs.  Since commencing operations, the company has processed approximately 50,000 CRTs and expects to report a turnover of €750,000 this year.
