FOCUS ON FINLAND
LOUTHLEADER has welcomed three visiting delegations from Western Finland during the course of the past few weeks. Strong working relations have been established with Lapua, Finland through the LEADER companies in both areas. Presently 8 schools in Louth are ‘twinned’ with similar schools in Lapua towards better cultural
understanding among the young people in both areas.
A further visit is to take place in early November; 15 Finnish artists and crafts people will mount an exhibition in Drogheda Library from the 6th- 8th of November. The Nordic exhibition, entitled ‘Lord of the Land, Heart of the Home’ is the first of its kind in Louth and will depict arts and crafts inspired by Finnish culture and nature with a view to exposing Irish audiences to Finnish culture and opening up potential new markets for the artists.

Maureen Ward notes that the exhibition is to include landscape and abstract paintings, photography, textiles, ceramics and other crafts and is open to all, and she encourages Louth people to visit not only to see the exhibits and provide a big welcome to the Finns, but also to avail of the opportunity to win a trip to Lapua, Western Finland!
